Meet Kim Baudewijns
Kim Baudewijns is a PhD researcher at the Human Rights Centre of Ghent University starting in spring 2024. In her empirical research in Eastern DRC she uses participatory research methods to understand the lived experiences of those affected by structural violence and explores how survivors navigate complex ecosystems of Transitional Justice mechanisms, also engaging with the connections between conflict, development and corporations.
She has a background in Anthropology and Development Studies, with a particular research interest in human rights, transitional justice, and victim participation. After graduation she started working as a practitioner in human rights and then continued with research and lecturing at the FLACSO in Ecuador and later also at the Vrije Universiteit in The Netherlands.
More recently, before joining the Human Rights Centre, she was involved in various research projects in the field of Transitional Justice, more specifically on the right to and politics of reparations, at the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement (nscr) and at the Centre for Conflict Studies of the Philipps-University Marburg. She has been engaged in research in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea, Guatemala, Ecuador, and Iraq.
